Renewable Energy Massachusetts LLC (REM) is a Massachusetts-based solar energy development company founded in 2009 that has developed several large-scale operating solar projects in Massachusetts. REM is a member of the Northeast Clean Energy Council, has been an active participant in the Massachusetts DOER and DPU solar energy policy making process, and is currently developing several megawatt-scale municipal and community shared solar energy projects in the Commonwealth.

REM expands its advisory board

January 4, 2010  (Cambridge, MA) – Renewable Energy Massachusetts LLC (REM) is pleased to announce that the company has attracted to its board of advisors two highly seasoned finance professionals, Ed Brakeman and Paul Kopperl, and a leading Massachusetts renewable energy environmental professional, Steve Barrett.  Their summary professional bios follow:

Ed Brakeman
Managing Director, Bain Capital, LLC, Boston, an affiliation Ed has maintained since 1988, first in private equity investments and then as co-founder in 1996 of Bain Capital’s public equity investment business, Brookside Capital. Active philanthropic roles currently with Tenacity, African Leadership Academy, and Girls and Boys Town. Ed is an REM advisor; as a matter of principle, he does not invest in private, non-control transactions outside Bain Capital. Ed has known Brian Kopperl for over 30 years and advises REM on matters of company strategy and management. Stanford University MBA.

Paul Kopperl
Co-founder and President, Pegasus Investments, Boston. Paul’s previous, lengthy investment banking career was with Goldman Sachs, Kidder Peabody and Delano & Kopperl, Inc., a corporate financial advisory and private equity firm he led for 27 years. Paul is a Trustee and member of the Executive and Finance Committees of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Former lecturer, U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Trustee, Williamstown Theater. Harvard Business School MBA.

Steve Barrett
Steve, who is the Director of Clean Energy of Harris Miller Miller & Hanson Inc., has 15 years of experience in environmental and regulatory consulting and project management. Most recently, Steve has been active in renewable and sustainable initiatives, including in the siting, design and financial analyses of wind and solar projects, sustainability planning and LEED analysis, and the permitting of energy, infrastructure, and real estate projects, including as principal of Minuteman Wind LLC, the developer of the Savoy, MA 12.5MW wind project in Western Massachusetts.
